And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, that I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your young men shall see visions, your old men shall dream dreams. Acts 2:17
We are in the End Times, or last days, now. Peter in his first address to the crowds after Pentecost spoke as such.
For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. Titus 2:11
These End Times are characterised as a time of grace that brings salvation to all men.
And Jesus, when He came out, saw a great multitude and was moved with compassion for them, because they were like sheep not having a shepherd. Mark 6:34
We live in a time of lost sheep who do not know God.
Arise, shine; for your light has come! And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you. For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and deep darkness the people; but the Lord will arise over you, and His glory will be seen upon you. The Gentiles shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising. Isaiah 60:1-3
Arise, shine; for your light has come! And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you.
… the Lord will arise over you, and His glory will be seen upon you.
For we Christians, our Light has come. The glory of the Lord has risen upon us. The Lord has risen over us. The Holy Spirit is here and He rests upon us.
… the darkness shall cover the earth, and deep darkness the people.
There is no doubt at all that people are in deep darlness. You only have to go witness on the streets to see this at first hand.
The Gentiles shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising.
Isn’t this amazing. Filled with faith and hope we proclaim that the Gentiles will come to your light. We proclaim revival in our midst.
The metaphor of sheep is used by Jesus to describe the life of those who are revived (saved) and those who are not (lost).
My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. John 10:27
I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. John 10:9
Revived sheep go in and out of the sheep pen and find pasture. This is a way of life. In the report we develop exactly what this means.
My people have been lost sheep. Their shepherds have led them astray; They have turned them away on the mountains. They have gone from mountain to hill; They have forgotten their resting place. Jeremiah 50:6
He found him in a desert land and in the wasteland, a howling wilderness; Deuteronomy 32:10
Lost sheep have been led astray, they have gone from mountain to hill (on the mountain is where you worship God), they have forgotten that Jesus offers true rest, they live in the spiritual wasteland and wilderness of this world and its values.
Will You not revive us again, that Your people may rejoice in You. Psalm 85:6
We echo Psalm 85, will you not revive us again, Lord, that your people may rejoice in you. This is not a question; it is a request in prayer. (The answer is a resounding YES by the way.)
‘Revive’ comes from the Hebrew word chayah, to make alive, restore to life, revive, be made whole. This is what happens to people in revival.
‘That Your people may rejoice in You’ so well describes what you do when revival touches you.
The Book of Joel lays out how revival unfolds, how this ‘End Time Revival’ is unfolding. It will be used as the framework of our description of REVIVAL EXPLAINED, and most importantly serve as a plumb line for what we do in Revival.
The Book of Joel gives us four steps in revival which are the basis of the report, REVIVAL EXPLAINED.
LAND LAID WASTE - REPENT (Joel 1:10,12)
SACRED ASSEMBLY (Joel 1:14, 2:15-16)
BLESSING (Joel 2:28-29)
REVIVAL (Joel 2:32, 3:32)
